Veteran Italian coach Giovanni Trapattoni once declared that if you listen to Mozart, you’ll play better football.

“You learn a lot about intervals, tempo, rhythm,” insisted the famously madcap boss. “You learn the logical skills you need to read a game.”

From that, one can surmise that his latter-day Republic of Ireland team didn’t care much for classical composers but, what is beyond dispute, is that football and music have been intrinsically linked for decades.
