Cardi B shatters Apple Music streaming record

Cardi B

Invasion Of Privacy, the debut album by rap sensation Cardi B, has set a new high water mark on Apple Music by passing 100 million streams worldwide in its first week of availability.

That’s a new record for a female artist, more than doubling first-week Apple streams for Taylor Swift’s 2017 album Reputation (Big Machine/Virgin EMI) – although Swift’s record did not debut on streaming until it had been available physically and on download for three weeks. Invasion Of Privacy (Atlantic), in contrast, has yet to receive a physical release.

Cardi B’s album is already the No.5 most-streamed album ever on Apple Music, passing even Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (Atlantic).

In the UK, Invasion Of Privacy debuts at No.6 today on sales of 11,446, with 79.33% of ‘sales’ coming from streaming.

The huge global numbers show the giant strides Apple Music has made of late, as it continues to close the subscriber gap with Spotify, despite Spotify’s well-received IPO. Apple recently passed 40 million total subscribers.
