Deezer partners with Amazon Alexa

Deezer has partnered with Amazon to make the streaming platform compatible with Alexa voice control in 66 countries.

Given the French company’s global footprint, the partnership makes Deezer one of the most widely available services on Alexa. Spotify was already accessible via Amazon’s agnostic voice control, while Apple Music is tethered to its own Siri AI and HomePod.

Deezer Premium+ users will now be able to use the Amazon Echo as well as other devices that support Alexa, such as Sonos One. Subscribers can also use Alexa voice control as part of the Flow personal soundtrack feature.

“We’re very excited to launch Deezer with Alexa in 66 countries and across a wide range of Alexa supported devices,” said Riad Hawa, VP hardware partnerships, Deezer. “Voice activation is on the rise, with a growing role in home listening and Deezer is proud to take centre stage in this evolution. With one simple request, Alexa users will now be able to listen to any album, artist and playlist through Deezer, making it easier than ever to enjoy the music they love,”

Deezer continues to be available via Google Home voice control.

Voice activation is widely seen as a major driver of streaming growth – more than 56 million smart speakers are predicted to ship globally this year, according to Canalys Research.
