Google puts artists centre stage on search

Google has made an update to its search functionality that increases the presence of artists with a wide range of updates including from social channels.

When fans search for artists with a Google Knowledge Panel, the results will include updates directly from official social media accounts. Google cited Lorde, Steve Aoki, Sia, Sofi Tukker, Shakira and Kygo as examples of artists utilising the new search functionality.

The Knowledge Panel will show images, videos, GIFs and social updates direct from the artist.

Lyor Cohen, global head of music at YouTube, said: “Google and YouTube's goal is to support and empower artists across the board. Giving artists the ability to manage how they show up on Google when fans are searching for information is critical, so I'm really pleased to see this new feature be made available to artists worldwide.”
