On S-Ong: Spotify appoints Sulinna Ong as head of artist and label services

Sulinna Ong has joined Spotify as head of artist and label services UK, Music Week has learned. She will report to Tom Connaughton, Spotify UK managing director.

For the past two years, Ong was VP of artist marketing at Deezer, who announced last week that her replacement would be Nigel Harding.

At Deezer, she was responsible for leading the artist marketing team globally, setting its strategy and working directly with labels and content creators. She also oversaw the Deezer Next new artist promotion.

Ong was also vocal on Deezer’s industry-wide campaign to switch to user-centric payments. Spotify has not yet indicated that it plans to introduce such a major shift.

Ong has 16 years’ experience of working on marketing strategies in the music industry, as well as directly managing artists including Kasabian and Fun Lovin’ Criminals.

She has also had spells of working in tech on marketing software, AI and robotics products. Ong’s previous employers include Sony Electronics, SonyBMG, and WholeWorldBand.

Spotify recently revealed its gender pay gap figures.
