'The rule book is being torn up': RCA's David Dollimore to appear at Ultimate Seminar

David Dollimore, president of RCA UK and Ministry Of Sound Recordings, has been unveiled as one of the big-name speakers at the Ultimate Seminar.

Now in its ninth consecutive year, the free music industry seminar returns on Saturday, November 24. It covers all aspects of the business, from managing talent to making it as an artist.

Organised by Cre8ing Vision in association with the University of Westminster, this year’s all-day programme will consist of several panels, including a 'fireside chat' with Dollimore. The Sony Music exec should have plenty to talk about, from the label’s success on streaming that’s made it the singles market leader to the Love Island compilation. There’s also his approach to reshaping the RCA team for the modern music industry.

The interview will explore Dollimore’s industry tips and predictions, as well as his long-term tenure at Ministry of Sound. He has helped launch artists including London Grammar, Sigala, DJ Fresh and Au/Ra

Dollimore said: “We have backed the Ultimate Seminar for the last three years. They have consistently delivered high quality speakers year in year out talking to an information hungry audience about the music industry’s future. It’s always packed and has now turned into a ‘must go’ feature of the music industry calendar.”

Cre8ing Vision founders, Kwame Kwaten, Nicola Charles and Andrea Euell, added: “The rule book is being torn up every day. Innovative ways that smart Cre8tive entrepreneurs can promote and unlock niche audiences, turn those audiences and fanbases into sustainable careers is number one on this year’s seminar agenda. From managers to lawyers, label PR to managing directors, The Ultimate Seminar is the one-stop shop for those wanting to unlock the knowledge and realise their own business potential.”

Other speakers confirmed for the 2018 edition include Sulinna Ong (global VP Artist Marketing, Deezer), Rob Pascoe (GM, Virgin EMI), Charlene Grant (senior A&R, BMG Music Publishing), Cass Lowe (Grammy and Ivor Novello-winning songwriter and producer – Chance The Rapper, Jesse & Joy, Snakehips) and Etta Bond (singer and songwriter – Labrinth, Raf Riley, Wretch 32, Plan B).

Talks and panels will address the rapidly changing landscape of the music industry and how to succeed in it. There will also be speed networking sessions and a music surgery, which will enable attendees to talk with music industry experts.

Previous speakers at the event include Stormzy, Dua Lipa manager Ben Mawson of Tap Management and Island Records US President Darcus Beese.

Shiela Birungi, creative enterprise centre manager & student entrepreneurship programme manager at University of Westminster, added: "The Ultimate Seminar is a pioneering annual initiative to champion and drive aspiring and emerging artists and music industry professionals towards their goals of succeeding in the industry.
