Music Week gigs of the week: August 17-23

Here's the best of live music in the capital this week, as Liars, Paigey Cakey, Knwledge and more vie for your attention.

Thursday, August 17

Knxwledge, XOYO, 9pm

The Kendrick Lamar and Anderson Paak collaborator (real name Glen Earl Boothe) is in East London this week for a solo show that will no doubt fuse modern hip-hop with old school soul and jazz.

Friday, August 18

Negative Space + Haise Pount + Pinkgrip + Vile Spirit + Child’s Pose, DIY Space For London, 7.30pm

Another Friday, another blistering night of punk at South London’s best members club. Five bands to see you into the weekend with a headache.

Saturday, August 19

Sneakbo + Afrikan Boy + Paigey Cakey + Afriquoi + Moelogo + Amira Kheir + Kasai Masai + Dee Ajayi, African Centre, 12pm

New UK rap sensation Paigey Cakey, who released her Red Velvet mixtape at the end of last year, is the pick of the line-up for the Afirca Centre’s Summer Festival.

Tuesday, August 22

D.D Dumbo, Omeara, 7pm

From Castlemaine, Australia and signed to 4AD, Oliver Hugh Perry returns to the capital for the first of two nights at Omeara. This guy has a real way with a loop pedal.

In town ahead of the release of new album TFCF on Mute Records – frontman Angus Andrew’s first as sole member after guitarist Adam Hemphill’s departure – Liars are here to lay siege to Rough Trade.
