Prolifica Management launch JV label with PIAS

Two Door Cinema Club

Leading management firm Prolifica is launching its own label – with two of its biggest artists as its first signings.

As exclusively revealed in this week’s print edition of Music Week, Prolifica Management clients Two Door Cinema Club and Circa Waves will both release their next albums on Prolifica Inc, having left major label deals with Parlophone and Virgin EMI respectively. The new label is being launched in partnership with indie giants – and this week’s Music Week cover stars – PIAS.

Prolifica Inc will initially concentrate on those two acts, but other artists will follow, including non-management signings. Prolifica will also launch a publishing company.

“It goes beyond just being a vehicle for our clients,” Prolifica co-founder Stefano Anselmetti told Music Week. “We definitely want to expand it and have a proper label. We can take artists on for management or records or publishing, so we have a few more options.”

The new label will do short term deals with artists, particularly in the alternative rock sector, which has fallen out of favour at many major labels as the genre struggles to gain traction at streaming.

The deal also sees Two Door Cinema Club return to the PIAS fold. The indie worked the band’s pre-Parlophone albums, including 2010 platinum-selling debut, Tourist History (Kitsuné).

“Historically, we had really significant success with Two Door Cinema Club, selling over one million records for them worldwide,” PIAS UK MD Jason Rackham told Music Week. “They have gone through another scenario after we worked with them, had a different experience and are now coming back in. Prolifica are a management company that we’ve had a long-standing relationship with and big successes with. They trust us, they know what we do and what we bring to the table and we know what they bring from an A&R perspective.”

Two Door Cinema Club will headline the Community Festival in Finsbury Park on July 1.
