The nominations for the 2018 ARIAS (Audio and Radio Industry Awards) have been unveiled.
Outgoing BBC Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans is going up against the Virgin Radio Breakfast duo he's replacing on the network early next year. Evans is nominated alongside Virgin's Sam & Amy, Hallam FM's Big John, Pulse 1's Mylo and Rosie, Radio 1's Nick Grimshaw and 1Xtra's Dotty in the Best Music Presenter - Breakfast category.
Dave Berry has been recognised for his previous Absolute show in multiple categories, including the Best Music Presenter Non-Breakfast category (alongside Edith Bowman, Radio 2's Jamie Cullum, Radio 1's Clara Amfo, Radio 2's Trevor Nelson and Absolute's Andy Bush).
The Best Specialist Music Show category includes nominations for Radio 1's Annie Mac, Edith Bowman, Mike Joyce on XS Manchester and Charlie Sloth on 1Xtra.
The awards, organised by The Radio Academy and supported by LeedsBID (Leeds Business Improvement District), recognise talent, innovation and excellence across the entire audio and radio industry. There are a total of 23 award categories, with a Bronze, Silver and Gold winner to be announced from each shortlist on October 18 at the First Direct Arena in Leeds. The ceremony will be hosted by Kiss presenters Melvin and Pandora.
ARIAS Chair of Judges, Phil Riley, said: “Year three of the ARIAS and the standard feels even higher, with industry veterans vying with new and upcoming talent in nearly every category. It’s great to see the BBC, commercial, indies, community stations and podcasters all doing so well. Eye-catching nominees include ‘You, me and the Big C’ in best new show and the rivalry, once again between Chris Evans and Sam & Amy in best music breakfast."
