'We have achieved so much': Proper expands promo department after first anniversary

Proper Music Group’s press and promotions division have hired press officer Joshua Hart.

Hart joins a year after the deparment was launched by former Columbia Records head of press Jo Donnelly. So far, Donnelly has led campaigns including Macy Gray, Caroline Spence, Thea Gilmore and Topic Records.

Donnelly said: “In just one year we have achieved so much and, with Josh now on board, we’ll continue to go from strength to strength, working across genres and with talent coming from across the globe. On the back of the recently signed distribution deal with the Australian label Dot Dash/Remote Control, we can’t wait to get involved with some of their brilliant upcoming projects too.”

Proper MD Drew Hill added: “Jo and the press team have been working tremendously hard on such an exciting, diverse range of projects and it’s great to see that paying off.”

Proper’s work with Macy Gray around her tenth album, Ruby, includes appearances on Loose Women, Good Morning Britain and Lorraine. “Jo’s a gangsta,” Gray commented.

Meanwhile, Proper is set to have significant involvement in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards this year, over half of nominees either distributed by Proper or on their in-house label, Proper Records. Nominees include Lisa O’Neill (River Lea), Seckou Keita (ARC Music), Kitty Macfarlane (Navigator Records) and Brìghde Chaimbeul (River Lea). Other Proper-distributed labels whose acts are in the running include Rootbeat, Hudson and From Here Records.
