'A legacy of timeless songs': Sony/ATV signs deal for Scott Weiland's Stone Temple Pilots catalogue

Sony/ATV

Sony/ATV Music Publishing has signed an agreement to represent the Stone Temple Pilots catalogue of Scott Weiland worldwide.

The late singer-songwriter's work as co-writer and frontman for the band's first six albums will be covered by the deal.

“The Weiland family is thrilled to partner with Sony/ATV. We look forward to opportunities that will introduce the Stone Temple Pilots catalogue to a new generation,” said his former wife Mary Weiland, who is head of the artist's estate.

Welcoming the deal Sony/ATV chairman and CEO Jon Platt said: “We are excited to be the home of such a classic and prestigious body of work that we are honoured to bring to a wider audience,” while the publisher's global chief marketing officer Brian Monaco paid tribute to the singer's talent.

“Scott Weiland was one of the most iconic frontmen of his generation and with Stone Temple Pilots created a legacy of timeless songs that Sony/ATV is now privileged to represent," he explained.

"I am thrilled about the licensing opportunities that we can create from this incredible catalogue.”

Weiland was a member of Stone Temple Pilots between 1989 and 2002. He passed away in 2015. The other members of the band meanwhile signed their own publishing deal earlier this month with Warner Chappell Music.

Jeff Gutt, who became the group’s singer in 2017, signed a publishing deal with Reservoir last year.

Meanwhile, Sony/ ATV has just promoted Jorge Mejia to president/CEO, Latin America & US Latin.
