Ariana Grande breaks streaming record with 7 Rings

Ariana Grande’s 7 Rings (Island) has broken streaming records in its opening week.

The single dethroned Ava Max to debut at No.1 with combined sales of 126,240.

The opening tally was split between 15,000 downloads and 16.9m streams, which set a new UK chart record for most streams in a week. The streaming total was divided between 10,774,269 for audio and 6,192,707 for video.

7 Rings is also Grande’s biggest opening week for a single in the UK, surpassing 2014’s Problem, which had 112,903 combined sales in its first week.

Grande has beaten her own streaming record for Thank U, Next, the video for which powered the single’s streams to 14,870,218 (95,439 combined sales)

It’s also the first single to achieve over 100,000 combined sales in a week since June 2017, when Artists For Grenfell’s Bridge Over Troubled Water landed at No.1 with 170,000 units. 7 Rings is also the first track by a female artist to pass 100,000 since Adele’s Hello in 2015.

Globally, 7 Rings has racked up 77m audio streams and 72m video streams. It is No.1 on the UK and global Spotify chart.

7 Rings is Grande’s fourth single to reach No. 1 in the UK, following Problem ft. Iggy Azalea (2014), Bang Bang with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj (2014) and Thank U, Next last year.

Grande has released three singles from forthcoming album Thank U, Next, which is released on February 8. She's confirmed UK dates for 2019.
