Kacey Musgraves, Lady Gaga, Childish Gambino win big at Grammys

Kacey Musgraves has won four Grammys for her acclaimed album Golden Hour. It was named Album Of The Year and Best Country Album at the ceremony at the Staples Center in LA.

In the other big categories of Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year, Childish Gambino triumphed with This Is America, which also won Best Music Video and Best Rap/Sung performance. He was one of several big rap artists not to appear, along with Kendrick Lamar and Chance The Rapper - although Drake did make it to the Grammys.

But the Grammys ceremony was widely seen as a celebration of female talent, following controversy surrounding representation of women at previous Grammys awards and comments by president Neil Portnow. He appeared on stage to apologise for his remarks.

"This past year I've been reminded that if coming face to a face with an issue opens your eyes wide enough it makes you more committed to bring change," he said.

“I guess this year we’ve really stepped up,” said Dua Lipa, who was named Best New Artist.

Ella Mai won Best R&B Song for Boo'd Up.

Dolly Parton and Diana Ross were honoured with lifetime awards, while Cardi B became the first solo female artist to win Best Rap Album, for Invasion Of Privacy. Drake won Best Rap Song for God’s Plan.

There were performances from Camila Cabello, Miley Cyrus & Shawn Mendes, Brandi Carlile and an Aretha Franklin tribute from Audra Day, Fantasia and Yolanda Adams.

Lady Gaga won three Grammys, including Best Pop Duet for Shallow (with Bradley Cooper) from A Star Is Born.

Ariana Grande, who pulled out of the show over a row with producers, won her first Grammy – Best Pop Album for Sweetener.

In the production categories, Emily Lazar became the first woman to win the Grammy for Best Engineered Album (Colors by Beck).

UK artists who won awards include Dua Lipa, Ella Mai and Mark Ronson, whose Silk City side project (featuring Dua Lipa) won Best Dance Recording for Electricity.
