Gigwise's Cai Trefor on Flasher’s Skim Milk

I was speaking with Jack Jones of Trampolene at the NME Awards about why people connect with Liam Gallagher and he said, “It’s hard to front a band. People underestimate what it takes to make an audience live through a person.”

This capacity to be so good that people live your moment is something Flasher know all about.

Skim Milk is the most immediately exciting Domino single since Amazing Snakeheads’ Testifying Time.

Flasher’s guttural yet melodic sound strikes a chord, as it points to childhood rebellion and alienation.

There is something intriguing about what’s going on with this band and others of their ilk in Washington DC.

According to a Stereogum report, there are two parallel punk scenes there: one headed up by retro thrash and bands like Red Death, and the other by Flasher and spin-off Priests.

Flasher’s signing to Domino ought to cast more light on the scene, and increase exposure for their debut EP, which is a beautiful record. It shows how an indie band on a budget should record.

Also, respect to Domino for signing a guitar band in the current climate and giving them the platform to accomplish their dreams.

It’s proof that, when you reach a certain level as a band, you’re impermeable to trends, whatever your genre.
