Tastemakers: What's The Great Escape's Adam Ryan listening to this week?

The Great Escape festival’s programmer Adam Ryan on Jimothy Lacoste’s Subway System

Eighteen-year-old Camden Town resident Jimothy Lacoste (real name Timmy Gonzalez) brings positive advice and catchy tunes about using the London Underground.

While songs such as recent single Subway System may not grab you straight away, after the second listen you understand that the guy’s a bloody genius and you’re hooked.

There’s nothing too deep here, but there is a lot to relate to, from angry businessmen overstepping the mark, to breaking down social anxiety and talking to your fellow passengers.

Subway System calls to mind a modern day Mike Skinner, with parallels to Lacoste’s fellow North London dance-grime-electro collective Man Like Me. You could also call it post-Post Malone.

Also, be sure to check out his tracks Future Bae and Getting Busy, where you learn what fills up a week in the life of Jimothy and the importance of things like eating healthily and keeping a busy schedule.

Life is getting quiet exciting for Jimothy at the moment, with two shows coming up at The Great Escape on Friday, May 18.
