Steven Gerrard is to be honoured at 2017’s Legends Of Football celebration, held in aid of Nordoff Robbins and sponsored by HMV.
Gerrard becomes the latest footballer to be honoured with the prize. Now in its 22nd year, the annual fundraising event returns on Monday, October 2 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
The ceremony aims to generate funds for music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins and has raised more than £7 million to date, enabling it to provide tens of thousands of music therapy sessions for some of the UK’s most isolated and vulnerable people.
This year’s celebration will pay tribute to Gerrard, commending a career that saw him captain both England and Liverpool before retiring last year. Gerrard spent 17 seasons at Liverpool and won the Champions League trophy, amongst others.
Described by Sir Alex Ferguson as “the best charity dinner in the football calendar”, Legends Of Football will also play host to an evening of live entertainment and many more of the game’s luminaries will be in attendance.
Past recipients of the Legends Of Football Award include John Charles, Sir Stanley Matthews, Brian Clough, Sir Bobby Robson, Sir Bobby Charlton, Kenny Dalglish, Sir Alex Ferguson, Alan Shearer, Denis Law, Eric Cantona, Pelé, Ryan Giggs and David Beckham.
Brian McLaughlin, Chairman of The Legends of Football, said: “We’re proud to be honouring Steven Gerrard on what promises to be an unmissable event. Legends Of Football has become one of the biggest and most anticipated charity fundraisers that commands a true heritage within the football calendar - all supported by the football community and fans.”
