YouTube Music to be pre-installed on Android devices

YouTube Music is to be pre-installed on new Android smartphones.

Just over a year on from the launch of the platform’s audio streaming service, YouTube Music is aiming to make up ground in the competitive market.

YouTube Music has a range of price tiers, as well as an ad-funded version and a basic free service via smart speaker. It has also been rolling out in international markets.

The move comes as Amazon aims to consolidate its No.3 streaming position with an Amazon Music HD streaming tier, a recent launch in Brazil and a new range of Echo devices.

YouTube Music will come installed on all new devices launching with Android 10, including the Pixel series.

“Music listeners on Android devices are now just a few taps away from streaming their go-to tracks and discovering new music,” YouTube Music product manager Brandon Bilinski wrote in a blog post. “From the gym, to the car, to work - it’s all here, right in your back pocket. Discover official songs, albums and playlists, music videos, remixes, live performances, hard-to-find music, and more.”

Google Play Music listeners with new Android 10 devices can continue to use the service by downloading it from the Play Store and logging in to their accounts.

Spotify has a partnership with Samsung and is pre-installed on the Galaxy S10 in the US.
