'They are Dirty Hit': The 1975 renews label deal for three more albums

The 1975 have renewed their deal with Dirty Hit and will be with the indie for at least three more albums, Music Week can reveal.

Speaking in the latest issue, Dirty Hit founder Jamie Oborne confirmed that the band would be staying with the label that helped secure them three consecutive No.1 albums.

“The 1975 extended their deal with Dirty Hit, The 1975 are with Dirty Hit for a long time,” said Oborne. “They are Dirty Hit, so of course they’d extend. The 1975 had a three-album deal and they’ve extended it for another three albums, which is amazing. Myself and the boys, we were so happy.”

The band will perform at the BRIT Awards next week (February 20) and are nominated in two categories, including Mastercard British Album Of The Year for A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships.

The album has sales to date of 95,405, according to the Official Charts Company. The follow-up, Notes On A Conditional Form, is scheduled for spring/summer 2019.

The renewal was with Dirty Hit but the label will maintain its JV partnership with Polydor on The 1975. Oborne stressed that Dirty Hit remains an indie.

“People seem to think that Dirty Hit is a Universal label and it is absolutely not, it’s 100% independent,” he said. “I have a joint venture with Interscope and Polydor on The 1975, because at the time it would have been a pointless, prideful decision to not partner with people who had the resources to help us move forward.

Dirty Hit is also launching a US operation. The label has existing partnerships with RCA on Wolf Alice and Interscope for The 1975, Pale Waves and The Japanese House.
