Time is running out to submit your entries to the Music Week Women In Music Awards 2018

To paraphrase Muse's Matt Bellamy, time is running out to submit your entries for the fifth edition of Music Week’s annual Women In Music Awards.

The deadline for entries is midnight on Monday, August 13, so don’t miss out on the chance to achieve recognition in a host of categories covering top executives, enduring and emerging artists and the next generation of industry talent.

You can read full details for the criteria of each award here and, please note, entries must be submitted online via the website.

One of the most important categories is the Company Diversity Award. First introduced last year, the Company Award for Diversity in the Workplace recognises a company that has gone the extra mile to champion diversity and inclusion both internally and externally.

Last year, the award was won by Proper Music Group – the largest totally independent distributor in the UK.

When accepting the award, Kameil Sattarhead of digital at Proper Music told Music Week: “This is the first award of its kind and we hope it’s one of many. I’m proud to be picking this up for our company. I know from the good work at UK Music and their diversity survey that happened recently that we actually found out that we were punching way above the weight of many when it comes to presenting a diverse workforce. There’s 104 staff at Proper and we represent 17 countries. There’s a 50-50 split between the men and the women in the company.”

She continued: “To top that, there’s five key departments and three of those are run by women. We are proud of the fact that our diversity has not come from a position of trying to just tick the balance quota from HR, but because each person that’s been given the job has genuinely been the best candidate.”

Elsewhere, last year’s event saw executives from the global industry gather to honour the most successful women in music. Universal Music UK CEO/chairman David Joseph toasted the victory of Decca Records president Rebecca Allen in the Businesswoman Of The Year category. Kobalt president, global creative, Sas Metcalfe, flew in from LA to collect her International Woman Of The Year award and was cheered on by CEO and founder Willard Ahdritz and First Access Entertainment CEO Sarah Stennett.

The full list of categories can be viewed here. Notably, this year’s ceremony includes the new category of Music Creative, for a woman in the UK industry who has made a significant contribution to the making of music behind the scenes through songwriting, studio production or studio technology.

The Women In Music Awards takes place on the afternoon of Friday, November 9, at The Brewery, near The Barbican in London. Event partners for the Music Week Women In Music Awards 2018 are AIMUK Music and Worldwide Independent Network.
