'Guitar music is an exciting place to be': Bucks Music signs Sick Joy

Bucks Music Group has signed Brighton-based trio Sick Joy to an exclusive worldwide publishing deal.

The deal follows an administration agreement already in place between Bucks Music and the band.

Sick Joy established themselves in Brighton in 2016 and played their first show at a sold-out Patterns with Demob Happy and Tigercub.

This year the band have sold out Camden Assembly Rooms as part of the venue’s Spotlight showcase events and confirmed supports with acts including Feeder, Tigercub and Honeyblood, as well as appearances at Camden Rocks and 2000 Trees festivals.

After being awarded Help Musicians and Pledge Music’s Emerging Artists Fund, Sick Joy released debut EP Amateurs in March 2018. The band recently signed to X-ray Touring and booked a tour for October 2018, including the Shacklewell Arms.

Sick Joy have so far had airplay support from BBC Radio 1, Kerrang! Radio, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and Radio X. Say Something Records will release new music from the trio.

Hannah Vincent, A&R assistant at Bucks Music Group, said: “I came across Sick Joy at their Camden Assembly show back in January and was completely blown away. Their ongoing drive and creativity makes them one to watch out for. We’ve created a team that I’m proud to be a part of and I’m extremely excited about the future.”

Their energy on stage is ridiculous and there is a real strength and richness to Mykl Barton’s songwriting.”

Sick Joy’s manager, Tom Lynam, said: “I’m really excited to be working with Hannah, Sarah and the team. Their enthusiasm and passion for Sick Joy is incredible. The future of guitar music is an exciting place to be right now and a Bucks Music, Sick Joy collaboration is a perfect match.”

Bucks Music Group’s catalogue includes works written by David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Procol Harum, DJ Fresh, Run The Jewels, Brian Eno, James Blunt, Professor Green, Rudimental, Beyonce, Joe Strummer and Pete Doherty.
