International charts analysis: Arctic Monkeys secure Top 10 entries in global markets

An instant No.1 on iTunes in 50 countries, Canadian singer/songwriter Shawn Mendes’ eponymous third album is clearly the hottest new release of the week, although UK band Snow Patrol’s seventh studio set Wildness, US rapper A$AP Rocky’s third album Testing and Scottish band Chvrches’ third album Love Is Dead should all do brisk business.

First chart placings for all will be available a week hence.

Meantime, after debuting at No.1 in the UK, Belgium (both Flanders and Wallonia), and the Netherlands, No.2 in Ireland, New Zealand and Norway, No.3 in Argentina, No.4 in Germany, No.8 in Sweden and No.9 in Japan last week, Sheffield band Arctic Monkeys’ sixth album Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino has added substantially to its slate. It debuts at No.1 in Australia, Croatia, Spain and Switzerland, No.2 in Denmark and France, No.3 in Austria and the Czech Republic, No.4 in Argentina, Canada, Mexico and Slovakia, No.5 in Finland, No.8 in the USA, No.9 in Poland, No.19 in Hungary and No.52 in South Korea. 

Post Malone’s Beerbongs & Bentleys continues to perform strongly, remaining at No.1 in Canada, Denmark, Finland, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden and the USA, while enjoying opposite and equal action and reaction in the two halves of the former Czechoslovakia, advancing 2-1 in the Czech Republic while falling 1-2 in Slovakia.

Top 10 in four countries last week, and Top 40 in a further seven, US singer/songwriter Charlie Puth’s second album Voicenotes is in decline in all of them but adds new debuts in Switzerland (No.4), The USA (No.4), Canada (No.5), Spain (No.6), Australia (No.7), France (No.7), the Czech Republic (No.10), Slovakia (No.12), Austria (No.19), Finland (No.30) and Poland (No.43).

British singer/songwriter James Bay’s 2015 debut album Chaos And The Calm was a major success in many countries, thanks to the widespread success of his first two singles Let It Go and Hold Back The River. Follow-up Electric Light dropped a week ago, and now debuts at No.2 in the UK, No.12 in Ireland, No.13 in the Netherlands, No.14 in Germany, No.21 in New Zealand, No.24 in Flanders. No.25 in Norway, No.26 in Sweden, No.75 in Italy and No.81 in Wallonia. 

Another British singer/songwriter, Anne-Marie’s debut album, Speak Your Mind, continues to do well four weeks into its career, debuting at No.13 in Slovakia and advancing 16-11 to a new peak in Finland, while moving 5-4 in Ireland, 7-10 in The UK, 20-26 in Flanders, 23-29 in Canada, 57-64 in the USA, 95-94 in France    

Finally, South Korean K-Pop sensations BTS debut atop their native country’s chart with their latest album, Love Yourself: Tear on sensational sales of 1.44m. They continue to make advances elsewhere, debuting at No.2 in Norway, No.5 in New Zealand, No.6 in Flanders, the Netherlands and Sweden, No.8 in Ireland and the UK, No.17 in Germany, No.18 in Wallonia and No.34 in Italy.
