Lewis Capaldi's debut LP goes platinum

Lewis Capaldi's debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent has gone platinum after selling more than 300,000 copies in the UK.

The LP, which was released on May 17 via Virgin EMI, has racked up sales of 304,417 (114,866 physical) to date according to the Official Charts Company.

The record is the biggest-selling artist album of the year so far and remains at No.2 on the albums chart after 10 weeks on sale. It was also the most pre-added album on Apple Music in the UK ever.

Capaldi spent seven weeks at the singles summit earlier this year with Someone You Loved, which remains in the Top 20, while his latest single Hold Me While You Wait is currently at No.6.

Divinely Uninspired... was recently overtaken by Ed Sheeran’s No.6 Collaborations Project as the fastest-selling album of 2019 so far.

Capaldi recently performed at Kew The Music, stepping in at short notice to replace Jess Glynne, and played the first of two sold-out nights at Scarborough Open Air Theatre, his biggest headline show yet.

"We knew he was doing great business and our colleague Anna-Sophie Mertens, his promoter at Live Nation, said, 'Why don't you think about doing some shows in Scarborough?' said Peter Taylor of Cuffe & Taylor, which operates the seaside venue. "This boy's come along and done 16,000 tickets in Scarborough this summer, so that is not bad going."

Capaldi supports Sheeran at a number of his UK outdoor shows this summer and plays a run of mid-size venues this November, prior to his first arena headline tour next March
