Released at very short notice last Friday (1st), Kanye West’s eighth studio album, Ye, is certain to debut atop the chart in his native USA next week but has already done so in Ireland, where it is his first No.1, and New Zealand, where it is his second. It also debuts at No.2 in The UK, No.3 in The Netherlands and Norway, No.5 in Sweden, No.6 in Flanders, No.18 in Italy and Wallonia and No.25 in Germany. It should enjoy an even bigger slate of debuts in the next few days, as the less speedy chart compilers catch-up.
That’s exactly what happens to Canadian teen superstar Shawn Mendes, whose eponymous third album opened at No.1 in Argentina, Flanders and The Netherlands, No.2 in Ireland, Italy and Norway, No.3 in Germany and The UK, No.4 in Wallonia, No.5 in Sweden, No.6 in Finland and No.46 in South Korea last week, and now adds debuts at No.1 in Australia, Austria, Canada, Spain, Switzerland and The USA, No.2 in Denmark and Portugal, No.4 in Argentina and The Czech Republic, No.5 in Poland, No.6 in Finland, No.7 in Slovakia, No.9 in France and Hungary and No.38 in Japan.
By the same token, Scots band Chvrches’ third studio album, Love Is Dead, debuted at No.7 in The UK, No.15 in Ireland, No.16 in Germany, No.35 in New Zealand, No.60 in Flanders, No.86 in Wallonia and No.88 in The Netherlands last week, and now opens at No.7 in Australia, No.11 in The USA, No.16 in Austria, No.22 in Canada, No.27 in Switzerland, No.41 in The Czech Republic, No.45 in Japan, No.81 in Spain and No.195 in France. It is in decline everywhere it debuted last week, except in Wallonia, where it advances to No.65.
Snow Patrol’s seventh studio album, Wildness, adds to the debuts we itemised here last week, opening at No.3 in Switzerland, No.11 in Austria, No.12 in Australia, No.31 in The Czech Republic, No.49 in The USA, No.52 in Canada, No.59 in Spain and No.77 in France.
British singer/songwriter Ben Howard’s third album, Noonday Dream, opens at No.4 in The UK, No.10 in The Netherlands, No.12 in Ireland, No.14 in Flanders, No.17 in Germany, No.38 in New Zealand and No.100 in Wallonia.
As Long As I Have You is the title of the ninth solo studio album of Roger Daltrey, the 74 year old lead singer and co-founder of The Who. Consisting of both originals and covers – including the title track which was originally recorded by Garnett Mimms in 1964 – the album is Daltrey’s first solo effort since 1992, although he did have success with Going Back Home, a 2014 collaboration with Wilko Johnson. As Long As I Have You opens at No.8 in The UK, where Daltrey’s only prior Top 10 solo album was 1973 debut Daltrey. The album also charts in Germany - where no previous Daltrey solo album has charted at all – debuting at No.26, which is the very position in which The Who’s 17th and most recent German chart entry, Live At Fillmore East, debuted in April. Daltrey’s album also charts at No.64 in Flanders and No.102 in Wallonia.
Finally, metal band Ghost aka Ghost BC, make their biggest impression yet with fourth album Prequelle, which debuts at No.1 in their native Sweden and neighbouring Norway and at No.2 in Germany, No.4 in Flanders, No.5 in Wallonia, No.10 in The UK. No.14 in The Netherlands, No.33 in Ireland and No.36 in Italy.
