A glittering array of Premier League legends came together at last night’s Legends of Football event to raise money for music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins.
Stars such as Alan Shesrer, Ryan Giggs, Michael Owen and Robin Van Persie plus a host of other were in attendance at London’s Grosvenor Hotel to celebrate 25 seasons of the Premier League.
The annual event has so far raised a combined total of over £7m, with around £404k generated from last night alone.
As well as celebrating 25 seasons of the Premier League, Legends of Football also celebrated the 25 players to have each scored 100 or more Premier League goals. The ‘100 club’ includes Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney, Andrew Cole, Frank Lampard, Thierry henry, Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Les Ferdinand, Jermaine Defoe, Teddy Sheringham, Robin van Persie, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Robbie Keane, Nicolas Anelka, Dwight Yprke, Steven Gerrard, Ian Wright, Dion Dublin, Emile Heskey, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Darren bent, Sergio Aguero, Didier Drogba and Matt Le Tissier.
Among the footballing talent on show was Dion Dublin, who recently visited Nordoff Robbins to see first-hand the work that the charity does.
“Coming here was a real eye opener,” he said. “Watching the session I did and seeing what the children are getting out of it – to them it’s a huge part of their life now. If I was to talk to someone about why they should support Nordoff Robbins I would say you are making a difference – this whole place is just itching to help people, so don’t wait around.”
Speaking about the event, Shearer said: “I always look forward to this event, it’s a cracking night out and for a really good cause too.”
Premier League executive chairman, Richard Scudamore, said: “The Premier League is proud to help put on the Legends of Football event each year to raise money for Nordoff Robbins. The members of the 100 Club were duly recognised for the role they’ve played during the Premier League’s 25 seasons and I hope every football fan in the room tonight enjoyed looking back on some of the great goals as much as I did.”
