'A proven leader': SoundCloud's Michael Weissman promoted to president

Michael Weissman

Michael Weissman has been named the new president of SoundCloud.

Formerly chief operating officer, the exec will continue to be responsible for the streaming service's legal, human resources and finance functions while also overseeing its subscription and advertising businesses.

He will report to CEO Kerry Trainor.

“I’m incredibly excited for what’s in front of us at SoundCloud,” said Weissman, who worked at Vimeo before moving to SoundCloud in 2017.

“Since joining SoundCloud nearly two years ago, we’ve grown the business across all key metrics, established several key partnerships and expanded globally. I look forward to continuing to drive the business and furthering our commitment to help creators and fans connect.”

Announcing the promotion, Trainor praised the new president's leadership.

“Mike is a proven leader whose strong business acumen and passion for the SoundCloud mission have been critical to helping us grow the world’s largest two-sided ecosystem of audio creators and passionate fans driving what’s next in music and audio,” he said.

“Mike’s leadership will be invaluable as we accelerate into our next phase of growth, and continue to provide the most comprehensive tools for creators to build their careers first on SoundCloud. Congratulations to Mike on this well-deserved promotion.”

Earlier this month SoundCloud announced plans to expand its Go+ premium plan across Europe. Last week, it hired Gilles BianRosa as its new chief product officer as the company continues to recover from its financial problems in 2017, when it was forced to lay off 40% of its workforce.
