Deezer has announced details of Deezer Next, a scheme designed to identify and champion emerging talent, exposing artists to new and wider audiences in the process.
The project will focus on up to 12 acts per country across Deezer-selected territories. Three of the 12 chosen artists will be supported globally, with the remaining nine boosted in markets including the UK, America, Germany, France and Latin America.
Rag’N’Bone Man, Maggie Rogers and Anne-Marie are the first three artists confirmed to take part.
Anne-Marie said: “It’s so amazing and such a lovely start to the year to be considered as one of the top 3 global emerging artists by Deezer”. Rory Graham, aka Rag’N’Bone Man, added, “Cheers Deezer for making me one of your Global Priorities. Pretty massive!”
The streaming platform will collaborate directly with artists, labels and managers to develop their profile through playlisting, the creation of tailored content and editorial and marketing support, including video, podcasts and social media. A track from one of the global priority acts will also feature in an upcoming Deezer TV advertising campaign.
The company’s VP, artist marketing, Sulinna Ong, commented: "One of the biggest challenges in the music industry is developing and breaking new artists but, as streaming is becoming the preferred choice for music fans, we now have an exciting and meaningful way of introducing and developing emerging artists on a global scale. Deezer is committed to supporting emerging artists and being an important part of the journey in developing artist careers.”
The UK’s list will be announced on January 17, with other territories to follow throughout the month.
The news comes as BBC Radio 1 launches its Brit List campaign, which is aimed at helping up to six emerging acts reach the station’s A-list.
