MelodyVR release new shows, including The Streets' Brixton Academy comeback

MelodyVR have confirmed they are adding five new gigs from The Streets, Thomas Rhett, Rudimental, Calum Scott and The Horrors to their VR collection.

Earlier this year, the company partnered with Ghetts and Caroline International on two events around the grime artist's most recent album Ghetto Gospel: The New Testament.

Speaking about The Streets’ O2 Brixton Academy show, Mike Skinner said: ‘We filmed one of our recent gigs at Brixton in VR and it’s an absolute mazza. You can even follow me jumping into the crowd and see the panic on my tour manager’s face. This is for your kids! In 20 years time there’ll be no excuses!”

Country singer Thomas Rhett has also shared his performance at the Honda Centre in Anaheim, CA from his very own point of view – with MelodyVR offering a special five-track premiere of the singer-songwriter’s VR debut.

Rhett said: “I’m really excited to be able to share this with everyone who couldn’t make it to a stop on the Life Changes Tour, and also offer those who could a chance to relive it with me … from right where I was standing! It’s amazing being able to experience the show from this perspective and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

Other shows added include Rudimental’s set at Alexandra Palace, Britain’s Got Talent star Calum Scott’s hometown performance at Hull City Hall, and Mercury Prize-nominated indie outfit The Horrors at their recent show at London’s KOKO.

The MelodyVR app is available on Oculus Go and GearVR devices.

Last September, Music Week spoke to Melody VR co-founder Steven Hancock about the "mind-blowing" opportunites of virtual reality for the music business. Subscribers can read the full feature here.
