Post Malone breaks US streaming records

Post Malone’s sophomore album has broken US streaming records.

The rapper debuted at No.1 on both sides of the Atlantic with Beerbongs & Bentleys. In the US, it opened with 461,000 equivalent album units (of which streaming accounted for 288,000 units), according to Nielsen Music.

James Donio, president of the Music Business Association, said it was "another big win" on the US charts for hip-hop, following J Cole's sales success with KOD.

Post Malone moved ahead of Drake’s streaming record for More Life, though the Canadian rapper is set to release a new album this summer with which he could regain his crown.

Post Malone has also broken the record for the most simultaneous Top 20 entries on the Hot 100. With nine songs making an appearance, he surpassed the six entries by The Beatles and J Cole.

The album smashed first-day streaming records on Spotify with 79 million global streams.

In the UK, Beerbongs & Bentleys debuted at No.1 with the third-highest contribution to date (35,244) from sales-equivalent streams, according to the Official Charts Company.

Post Malone will play UK summer dates at the Wireless Festival (July 6) and Reading And Leeds (August 24).
