Spotify has launched its first ever podcast series, Shaun Keaveny’s Show & Tell.
The new podcast follows their decision in July to direct more resources into podcasting in the US. Spotify agreed to promote podcasts such as Pod Save America in its app and via ads on buses in return for hosts mentioning Spotify on social media and in the podcasts.
Spotify is experimenting in new media to increase the time customers spend on its app and to boost advertising sales. A move into podcasts might also bring in new revenue that reduces the share of Spotify’s sales going to record labels in royalties.
The new series of 12 weekly podcasts will see radio and TV presenter Shaun Keaveny interview a celebrity guest each week, inviting that guest to do a ‘show and tell’ of noteworthy items in their home that tell a story of their lives.
The first episode sees Keaveny invited into the home of comedian, actor and TV presenter Al Murray. The second episode will feature an interview with the writer Irvine Welsh. Keaveny has presented the BBC 6 Music Breakfast Show since 2007.
