'The scene continues to thrive': Aitch and Stefflon Don named top rising rappers on Deezer

Deezer has revealed that Aitch, Jay1 and Russ Splash are its top ‘new’ rappers in the UK.

Aitch’s recent single Taste (Make it Shake) hit No.1 on the streaming platform’s UK Chart. The track has 288,067 sales and peaked at No.2 in the UK, according to the Official Charts Company.

Deezer’s figures revealed that 40% of those listening to Aitch, Jay1 and Russ Splash on the service are aged 18-25.

The platform studied 12 months of streaming data to determine the biggest rap trends across the UK and globally.

Acts who have released their first track in the last 24 months qualify as ‘new’.

Dave was Deezer’s most streamed UK rapper of the year, with a 798% uplift between August 2018-March 2019. Last week, Dave’s Mercury win for Psychodrama boosted streams by 42% in the 48 hours following the announcement.

Fredo, AJ Tracey, Stormzy and Not3s follow Dave as the most popular male MCs, while Stefflon Don tops the list of female rappers, with 85% uplift in streams between September 2018-April 2019. Ms Banks, Lady Leshurr and Nadia Rose follow Stefflon Don on the list.

Xxxtentacion and Nicki Minaj were the most streamed international rap acts. Juice Wrld was the most popular ‘new’ international rapper.

Adam Read, Deezer’s UK & Ireland music editor said: “It’s fantastic to see how the UK rap scene continues to thrive across all parts of the UK. The fact that the first and second biggest artists on the rise in UK rap are from Manchester and Coventry respectively is testament to the fantastic new talent coming out of those areas. With Birmingham thriving and London still churning out more and more stars, the popularity of rap music in the UK shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.”
