YouTube has unveiled a revamp to its charts service, promising to showcase the success of a range of artists from “emerging stars to perennial chart-toppers”.
The news comes ahead of the upcoming relaunch of YouTube’s paid subscription service.
YouTube’s redesigned charts platform is housed at a new location, YouTube.com/charts, and has expanded to cover 44 different countries, including America, Germany, Japan, Brazil and Japan.
The biggest change is the addition of a new Trending Chart, which will be updated multiple times each day and gauge the new music users are consuming.
Existing charts for Top Songs, Top Artists, and Top Music Videos have also been updated.
Candice Morrissey, head of music partnerships, EMEA, commented: "YouTube Charts are a reflection of the most diverse platform for music content in the world. The YouTube platform is a powerful source to gauge the popularity and velocity of a song or video, so we're excited to showcase the success of artists, whether they are emerging stars or perennial chart toppers."
The new Trending Chart represents YouTube’s “first dedicated external signal of the most viewed new music on the platform. Top Songs collates views of all versions of a particular track (including the official music video, official song used in user generated content and lyric videos) and is updated weekly.
