The Brits to watch at the Grammys

The Brits to watch at the Grammys

Five UK artists to look out for at this year’s ceremony

1 ADELE

It’s not exactly a vintage year for British acts in the main categories – with one obvious exception. Adele is shortlisted in Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album and probably Best Grime/Polka Crossover Performance.

She is UK music’s 2016 Get Out Of Jail Free card and if she doesn’t win at least one of the big ones then we might as well all give up and go home.

2 UNDERWORLD

It’s been a good month for Karl Hyde and Rick Smith. The T2 Trainspotting soundtrack has them back front and centre of the filmic vehicle that made their name in the first place and latest album Barbara Barbara, We Face A Shining Future is up for Best Dance/Electronic Album rather than Most Baffling Album Title. Expect a very British lager/shouting scenario if they win.

3 DAVID BOWIE

His snub in the Album Of The Year category may be almost as inexplicable as the Grammys’ Lady Gaga tribute to him last time out, but at least the late, great icon makes a strong showing in Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Alternative Music Album. Can they really not give him at least one?

4 RITON

He’s a super-indie dance music DJ and producer from Newcastle. But you knew that, right? His Kah-Lo featuring track Rinse & Repeat is up for Best Dance Recording where he’ll take on the likes of The Chainsmokers and Flume. Not bad for a song inspired by a shampoo bottle.

5 ELVIS COSTELLO

Good old Elvis. He’s a musical genius, isn’t he? So what’s he up for? Album Of The Year? Song Of The Year? Most Acerbic Lyric By A Middle-Aged Bloke In Glasses? Nope, Best Spoken Word Album for his memoir, Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink. Oh.
