Absolute Label Services has signed a label services deal with grime artist Cadet and his management company, J Star Entertainment.
Under the deal, Absolute will look after all label management, music distribution, social media promotion and video releases for Cadet.
Absolute senior label manager, James McGuinness, said: “We're really happy to be working with Cadet. As with many of our grime acts, he stood out as a real talent straight away and we made sure we offered a deal quickly to add him to our roster. We saw a chance to help Cadet build a platform to grow as an artist, within his own label, and keep full creative control via our label services and distribution.”
Cadet said: “I'm incredibly excited about Absolute. We share the same vision and goals, and they have so much faith in me and my art. I literally cannot wait to see my dreams come to fruition with them.”
Drawing on its experience in the grime and UK hip-hop genre, Absolute will focus on a multi-platform digital strategy initially, with a performance, music and animated video plan executed via YouTube and Vevo to promote Cadet's debut EP, Commitment.
In the week that followed Commitment's release on February 19, Cadet dominated the iTunes Hip Hop chart despite not having the backing of a label or proper marketing. Last year, Cadet supported Krept & Konan and Bugzy Malone, as well as having his own sold-out headline show at London's Islington Academy in March 2016 with guest appearances from Krept & Konan, MoStack and Donae'O. He will be supporting Pusha T at Electric Brixton on April 27 with new music set for release in the second half of 2016.
Since teaming up with Channel AKA's 360 Records in 2010 and setting up Stay Dench Recordings for Lethal Bizzle in 2011, Absolute has developed a strong track record in the UK grime scene, working with a number of big names in the genre including Skepta, Krept & Konan, Yungen and Lady Lykez. The independent label services company has also worked on the Lord Of The Mics compilations since 2011. Last year, the brand celebrated its 10th anniversary with a Top 10 entry in the UK Compilation Chart for LOTM 7.
