Comedian Jason Manford to release debut studio album

Comedian Jason Manford is to release his first ever studio album, A Different Stage, via Decca Records, on October 6.

Inspired by Manford’s love for musical theatre, it will feature tracks such as a rendition of On The Street Where You Live’from My Fair Lady, Hushabye Mountain from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Stars from Les Misérables and The Impossible Dream from the 1965 hit Broadway musical Man of La Mancha.

The 36-year-old has performed in a number of hit musicals since making his 2012 West End debut in the Olivier Award-winning Sweeney Todd. In 2014, he starred as Leo Bloom in the production of Mel Brooks’ The Producers.  And last year took the lead role of Caractacus Potts in the UK tour of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

“Everyone knows Jason for his incredibly successful TV and comedy career, but what is less known is what extraordinary success he’s had on stage as a singer, and we’re delighted to be showcasing his voice on this wonderful new album,” said Decca's director of A&R, Tom Lewis.

A Different Stage will be released on Decca Records in early autumn, ahead of his 2018 year-long UK comedy tour, with a brand new show, Muddle Class.

“I feel so incredibly lucky to have been asked to record this album especially with a respected record company like Decca – what are they playing at?!!" said Manford.

"From singing with my Nana’s band as a young boy to appearing in huge musical productions, I've loved singing for as long as I can remember. It's been a treat to perform my favourite songs and it’s been great to share some of the experience along the way with many of my fans on Facebook. Their support and both my Nana’s passion for music has led to this momentous moment in my life. Hope you like it.”

The comedian will hope to repeat the success of fellow funnyman Bradley Walsh, whose Chasing Dreams LP was the best-selling debut album by a British artist in 2016 and has gone on to be certified gold, with sales of 140,749.
