Concord Music acquires Savoy Label Group

Concord Music has acquired the Savoy Label Group, which includes the Savoy Jazz catalogue, 429 Records and extensive classical recordings.

The deal includes more than 3,000 master recordings from some of the most iconic names in music history. Savoy Jazz features early landmark recordings from Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Erroll Garner. The collection also includes more recent recordings by Pat Martino, Phil Woods, Etta Jones, Bill Frisell and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

The 429 Records label features titles by Meat Loaf, Boz Scaggs, LL Cool J, Robbie Robertson, Joan Armatrading, Los Lobos, Macy Gray, Paul Rodgers, Dr. John, Mick Fleetwood, Bruce Hornsby, Roberta Flack and Joe Cocker. SLG’s classical offerings feature works by superstar Dutch violinist Andre Rieu, the London Symphony & Philharmonic Orchestras, Berlin Symphony, Moscow and Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestras and soloists like Sviatoslav Richter and Alicia De Larrocha.

Concord Music has also entered into a multi-year consulting and production agreement with Savoy’s former owner, Steve Vining, with an option for new recording projects.

Concord Music’s chief operating officer, Glen Barros, said: “Savoy is a great combination of both legendary masters and incredible recent recordings by a number of wonderful contemporary artists. We are so very proud that it is now a part of Concord Music. And as Steve Vining has done a great job of building Savoy over the recent past, we very much look forward to all that he will bring to our company in the future.”

Concord Music’s chief business development officer, Steve Salm, added: "The addition of Savoy to Concord Music is consistent with our on-going growth strategy, as it deepens our presence within a number of core genres. It also adds numerous classic recordings and another legendary brand to our great group of labels.”

Former owner and CEO of SLG, Steve Vining, commented: "Concord’s enormous success in many of the same musical genres SLG has pursued convinces me they will be outstanding stewards of both the rich catalogue as well as the new recordings to come from our very talented artists.”
