Darcus Beese predicts 'serious contribution to culture' as Island reveals new Urban Division appointments

Island president Darcus Beese has welcomed two new appointments to the major’s Urban Division.

As exclusively revealed in the new issue of Music Week, out now, Johnny Brocklehurst and Adele White have been appointed as head of marketing, urban division and senior urban A&R manager respectively.

“Johnny and Adele are very much part of the new breed,” said label president Beese. “The way they think and operate fits perfectly with everything Alex [Boateng] is trying to achieve in the Urban Division. Trust me, this lot can make a serious contribution to the culture.”

Brocklehurst moves across from his position as senior marketing manager at Island Records, while White, who has previously served at BBC Radio 1Xtra, joins from Relentless Records, where she worked with Not3s and Nadia Rose.

White said: “I’m super excited to be joining Island Records. I am here to continue to sign and nurture the hottest and most exciting talent in the UK.”

Brocklehurst added: “I’ve been fortunate enough to work closely alongside Alex across multiple projects since starting at Island, and I’m thrilled to be joining him and the team within the Urban Division. Alex is a force of nature, so I’m incredibly excited for our next chapter.”

Island’s Urban Division launched in March 2017 and counts Giggs and Big Shaq among its key UK campaigns so far.
