MIDEM x Cannes
MIDEM has signed a five-year deal with Cannes. Reed MIDEM and the French city have had a partnership going back more than 50 years. The agreement runs until December 31, 2024.
“Reed MIDEM has been organising major international business events in Cannes since MIPTV in 1965,” said Paul Zilk, chief executive of Reed MIDEM. “The city is transforming itself in a positive manner, thanks to public and private investment that continually develops its services and its international competitiveness. Cannes and Reed MIDEM are working hand in hand to offer exceptional services to our clients. It is a pleasure to renew our partnership for the next five years.”
Man about Townsend
Townsend Music has hired PledgeMusic’s former head of acquisitions, Ben James, as new business manager. At PledgeMusic, he worked with artists including Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Orbital and The Wombats.
James started his career in A&R at Nude Records. He went on to work for B-Unique and Live Nation’s festival and brand partnerships division, as well as setting up his own promotions and artist management business.
“I’m excited to join Townsend at a time when D2C has become all the more important to artists’ careers and label release plans,” said James.
Roc star
Desiree Perez has been promoted to CEO of Roc Nation. She is a co-founder of the company with Jay-Z and has served as COO since 2009. Roc Nation artists include Mariah Carey, Miguel, DJ Khaled and Alicia Keys.
In her new role, Perez will oversee all divisions, including management and publishing. Jay Brown moves from the CEO role to become chairman.
Reservoir x Sam Sumser
Reservoir has signed Grammy-nominated writer-producer Sam Sumser to a worldwide publishing deal. The agreement includes the rights to Sumser’s catalogue of works, including Juice and Lingerie by Lizzo.
“The entire Reservoir creative team, including John Ozier, Greg Gallo and Donna Caseine are extremely forward-thinking and hard-working,” said Sumser. “It’s great to have them and the rest of the company in my corner. Big things ahead!”
