Former First Access exec Lucy Tallant launches new label

Former First Access Entertainment digital manager Lucy Tallant has told Music Week there’s a “gap in the market” for her new label and development company supporting emerging artists.

Brighton-based XVII Music has launched with multi-million pound backing from a private investor based on Tallant’s track record at First Access, which works with artists including Rita Ora, Iggy Azalea, BB Diamond, Conor Maynard and Ellie Goulding.

Speaking in the new issue of Music Week, Tallant said the XVII Music ethos is drawn from her experience of seeing long-term development for global artists at First Access.

“There’s a gap in the market in terms of supporting newer talent,” she said. “With many companies there’s an ever more restricted feeling on relying on the artist to have a certain level of positioning before [the label] can get involved.”

As head of development, Tallant said she will be aiming to “redefine some rules” for release campaigns in the streaming era.

The label’s roster includes Brighton bands Fine Creatures and Mantras, as well as Japanese pop act Faky.

Tallant described First Access CEO and 2017 Music Week Strat Award winner Sarah Stennett as a major influence on her career in the industry. Subscribers can read Music Week’s Big Interview with Stennett here.
