Revenue for recorded in music in France rose by 3.3% in the first half of 2018.

Figures released by the Syndicat National de l'Edition Phonographique (SNEP) show that income reached €256m (approximately £227m) between January and June.

Within that physical revnues fell by 12.9% to €91.6m (£81.6m), but digital monies increased by 16.2%.

Digital now accounts for €153.7m (£136.7m), 60% of the French market and that growth is being driven by streaming, with the country's services generating €136.6m (£121.5) so far this year.

Streaming now accounts for over half (53.4%) of all recorded music consumed in France, with fans streaming 27bn tracks between January and June 2018, up from the 19.4bn they played during in the same period last year.

The SNEP adds that each month it is subscribers, as opposed to free listeners, who account for three quarters of French streams, noting that subscriber revenue has risen by 19.5% year-on-year.
