'She has owned the whole process': The inside story on Cheryl's return

Cheryl Tweedy's manager has given the inside track on the singer's return as the former Girls Aloud star eyes a return to the Top 10.

Comeback single Love Made Me Do It, released via 3 Beat, was No.8 in Monday's midweeks on sales of 9,525, according to the Official Charts Company. Tweedy is set to perform the track on The X Factor this Sunday.

Her manager, Lily England, has told Music Week the focus was on a succession of singles before committing to a follow-up to 2014 album Only Human (67,559 sales), which peaked at No.7.

“Right now we’re not planning an album, we’re going single by single because it’s changed so much since Cheryl’s last release,” said England. “She doesn’t really have any streaming numbers because that all started after she’d finished releasing four years ago. So we’re going to go song by song and see how it goes. There’s a body of work there, so there is a possible album – we’ll see how it reacts.”

Miranda Cooper, who co-wrote some of Girls Aloud's biggest hits, contributed to Love Made Me Do It at sessions organised by Tweedy, while songs have also been written with former bandmate Nicola Roberts.

“She has owned the whole process from every angle,” said England. “It’s all come from her which is great because it’s never been that way before.”

While Tweedy left Polydor following Only Human, she remains a Universal Music artist as 3 Beat has a JV with the major.
