Sony dominates 2017 BRITs with nine wins on the night

Sony Music UK enjoyed its most successful BRITs ever last night, securing a haul of nine out of the 13 available awards.

The major dominated proceedings on the night, with the late David Bowie (RCA) posthumously honoured with two awards, British Male Solo Artist and Album Of The Year, while Rag’N’Bone Man (Columbia) also scored a BRITs double with the Critics’ Choice and British Breakthrough Act awards.

Elsewhere, Little Mix’s (Syco) Shout Out To My Ex won British Single, One Direction (Syco) picked up British Artist Video for History, Beyoncé (RCA) secured International Female Solo Artist and A Tribe Called Quest (RCA) were named International Group. Robbie Williams (Columbia) picked up the Icon Award.

Jason Iley, chairman and CEO, Sony Music UK and Ireland, said: “This is a truly momentous and historic night for Sony Music’s artists – and is just reward for so many people’s dedication and hard work. I would like to congratulate and pay tribute to all of our artists from around the world. Everyone at Sony Music is proud and humbled every day to work alongside people with such exceptional creativity, drive and musicianship. I would also like to thank all the brilliant people at Sony Music, whose passion and determination has helped deliver the artists’ vision.”

Meanwhile, Universal took home three awards, meaning Warner Music Group ended the night empty handed. Emeli Sandé (Virgin EMI) won British Female Solo Artist, The 1975 (Dirty Hit/Polydor) took British Group and Drake (island) won International Male Solo Artist. XL's Adele (released via Sony in the States) won the Global Success gong.
