'They speak our language': Australian label Dot Dash partners with Proper Music

Dot Dash, the in-house label of Australian label management, digital distribution, publicity and marketing services company Remote Control, has inked a new distribution deal with Proper Music Group.

Proper will distribute CDs and records from Dot Dash throughout Europe, the UK and Ireland for the label’s artists.

The first UK/Europe release through the new partnership will be Gena Rose Bruce’s debut album, Can't Make You Love Me, set for release in early 2020, ahead of her upcoming performance at SXSW.

It will be followed by an expanded version of the self-titled debut record by Carla Geneve, who recently took home four West Australian Music Awards including Best Rock Act, Best Single, Best Guitarist and Best EP. New music from Donny Benét will follow in 2020.

The label said new signings Handsome and Memphis LK are already attracting global attention.

Dot Dash was established in 2004 as Remote Control’s in-house label for the company’s Australian signings. Over the years it has worked with Methyl Ethel, Chet Faker, Wolf & Cub, King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard, Client Liaison, Banoffee, Total Giovanni, Gabriella Cohen and more.

Dot Dash’s co-founders, Steve Cross and Harvey Saward, said: “We are excited to be working with the team at Proper. We are both 100% independent companies with no affiliation to major labels; Proper speak our language. As lifelong record collectors, we know their track record and know we can entrust them to get our releases in to the right stores.

“We’d also like to thank Dan Nevin for his invaluable assistance in setting up this new arrangement. It’s a very exciting time for Dot Dash. Over the past year Donny Benet has played more gigs in Europe than Australia. Gena Rose Bruce and Carla Geneve are attracting international interest and have both been invited to play SXSW early in 2020. Everything seems to be pointing in the same direction and this new partnership with Proper comes at exactly the right time.”

Drew Hill, MD of Proper Music Group, said: “Dot Dash has a brilliant roster, many of whom are making serious waves in the UK and Europe. We really connect with their independent ethos and, with our strong retail connections and their great music, we can’t wait to watch this popularity flourish.”
