Cambridge Folk Festival to be curated by Rhiannon Giddens

Cambridge Folk Festival has announced that 2018 tickets go on sale this week, on December 1, ahead of a full line-up announcement.

The UK’s long-running folk festival returns to Cherry Hinton Hall between 2-5 August, for four days of music from established acts and breakthrough artists.

Cambridge Folk Festival has been twinned with the legendary Newport Folk Festival. The partnership will bring about a new transatlantic artistic relationship that will allow both festivals to share ideas, experiences and artists.

This year’s guest curator is Grammy Award-winning songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and founding member of Carolina Chocolate Drops, Rhiannon Giddens.

She said: “I am honoured to be the next guest curator for Cambridge Folk Festival, following on from the amazing Jon Boden who has done a wonderful job this year. Having played the festival before, I know how special Cambridge is and I am really excited to be contributing to the line-up next year as well as performing.”

Cambridge Live MD Steve Bagnall said: “We are very excited about this year’s Festival with Rhiannon Giddens taking over the role of guest curator and our plans with Newport Folk Festival taking shape - we are certain that this year will be a unique one for Cambridge Folk Festival. We are also very proud to be recognised for our work with developing artists with a UK Festival Nomination in this field. Cambridge has and will continue to be an important platform for the development of young folk talent and we are committed to growing this part of the festival even further for 2018.”
