Festival Republic has revealed an expansion plan for ReBalance, which will now include a live events programme.
The ReBalance scheme, launched in 2017 in partnership with PRS Foundation, is targeted at UK-based, core female identified bands, musicians or solo artists. Artists benefit from recording time and festival slots.
The expansion aims to give additional live support to artists by giving them a platform to perform to industry figures and new fans in some of London’s intimate venues. ReBalance Presents will showcase the best in emerging talent as well as acts directly from the scheme.
The last ReBalance finalists for 2019 have been confirmed as Guildford-based singer-songwriter Annabel Allum, Scunthorpe-based teenage indie-punk trio Finno and Cardiff-based singer-songwriter Rebecca Hurn.
Allum’s Not Where You Pretend You Are secured placement on Spotify’s New Music Playlist, as well as receiving plays on BBC 6 Music and BBC Music Introducing.
"Being awarded the ReBalance scheme is an insanely exciting prospect for me,” said Allum. “I would never have had the opportunity to begin work on my debut album as economically it's just very difficult as a self-funded artist. I think it is an excellent scheme with regards to female-identifying artists, and giving them opportunities many of them deserve, but without this might not be considered for".

Finno played Edinburgh at Sneaky Pete's on International Women's Day in partnership with Girls Against.
In a statement, the band said: “Being from a small music scene in a town like Scunthorpe, it's easy to feel cut off from the rest of the UK music scene, but thanks to ReBalance we can bring our visceral and raw music to the attention of more people and record it with a quality we could otherwise never attain if it wasn't for their help.”
After the release of her EP Waves last year, Hurn became a BBC Radio Wales 'A' list artist. The title track earned her recognition at the Independent Music Awards in New York City in June.
Hurn said: “I'm equally excited and encouraged by the programme Festival Republic, PRS Foundation and partners have developed to rebalance the presence of female artists producers and all others working together to perform create music in our industry, I can't wait to get going.”
ReBalance events confirmed include a January 14 date at Servant Jazz Quarters, featuring Nia Wyn and Keedz.
The series will return on February 26 at The Social, featuring Martha Hill, Luna and Ruby Duff.
