"It's going to go off!": Emily Eavis talks Glastonbury 2019

In the latest edition of Music Week we prepare you for Glastonbury 2019, with our huge cover feature seeing Jo WhileyClara Amfo, Steve Lamacq and team BBC outline their plans for this year’s blockbuster event. And that’s not all.

Elsewhere, Two Door Cinema Club gear up for their Glasto set, senior booker Martin Elbourne reflects on some of the experiences putting on the festival and the biz picks some of its favourite moments from Worthy Farm over the years.

Another part of our comprehensive coverage includes Emily Eavis discussing this year’s line-up as the biz anticipates the ever-reliable ‘Glasto effect’ on record sales – particularly after its fallow year in 2018. Eavis told Music Week about some of the changes in play for 2019.

“Besides the many creative changes to areas and stages there are lots of tweaks and additions across the site,” said Eavis. “From infrastructure and roads, to an increased number of water kiosks to refill people’s bottles (we have no single use plastic bottles on sale for the first time). It’s the first time we’ve had Shakespeare on site too - which is happening on raised walkways amidst the trees in The Wood. People should definitely try to check that out!”

Eavis also opened up about the difficulty involved in securing this year’s headliners (Stormzy, The Cure and The Killers).

“It’s always a very gradual process booking headliners,” said Eavis. “It takes place over many months while we book the rest of the festival, and we try to get a balance across the whole bill of the most exciting acts in the world. But I’m really pleased with how it all came together this year. - both in terms of the three headliners and the bill as a whole.”

Eavis was quick to praise Stormzy as a live performer, explaining why he was booked to headline for the first time.

“When I saw him play the 2017 festival on the Other Stage I knew straight away that the next time he played he would be headlining the Pyramid,” explained Eavis. “The reaction in the field was unbelievable, he’s got such a presence and the energy is incredible. I’m so excited about his show. It’s going to go off on the Pyramid!”
