Pop superstar Katy Perry is set to perform at next week’s 2017 BRIT Awards, completing the live line-up for the event, which takes place on February 22 at The O2 Arena in London.
In what will be Perry’s first UK TV appearance in three years, Perry joins a live line-up that includes Ed Sheeran, Robbie Williams, Bruno Mars, The 1975, Little Mix, Emeli Sandé and Skepta.
“I’m excited to come back to one of my favorite countries, where most of my favorite musical influences come from,” said Perry. “After three years, I’m excited to return to the BRITs stage to kick off a new era of purposeful pop.”
BRITs chairman and chairman and CEO of Sony Music UK and Ireland, Jason Iley, added: “Katy Perry, one of the biggest artists in the world, is the perfect artist to complete our incredible 2017 line-up. She’s a global superstar who will bring even more glamour, fun and excitement with her exclusive UK BRITs performance next week.”
Perry has set a new record on Spotify with her new single Chained To The Rhythm, which she performed live at the Grammys (February 12). The song has accumulated more than three million streams on Spotify, marking a new record as the best first day of streaming of a single track by a female artist. The total number of streams on February 10 was 3,062,293. To mark the release of the track, a number of themed mirror balls were placed in various locations around the world, with fans invited to track one down in order to gain exclusive access to the song.
Meanwhile, today sees the annual BRITs Week with War Child gig series get underway. The initiative is designed to allow fans to see some of the world’s top artists in intimate venues whilst also raising money for children whose lives have been affected by war. Tinie Tempah set to kick proceedings off at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire, while Rag’N’Bone Man performs at Clapham Grand.
