Little Mix, Emeli Sandé and The 1975 first acts confirmed to perform at 2017 BRITs

Little Mix, Emeli Sandé and The 1975 have been confirmed as the first acts to perform at the 2017 BRIT Awards, which takes place on Wednesday, February 22 at London’s O2 Arena.

More performers will be announced over the coming weeks, after the nominees for this year’s awards were announced on Saturday night as part of a televised launch event on ITV, hosted by Emma Willis. The show featured performances from the likes of Craig David, Calum Scott, Christine And The Queens and Rag’N’Bone Man.

One of the most notable aspects of this year’s list of nominees is the diversity of talent and a strong grime showing, after last year’s awards drew criticism for an alleged lack of diversity and grime artists. The fallout led to an overhaul of the BRITs voting academy in a bid to create a more representative event.

Up for British Male Solo Artist are Craig David, David Bowie, Kano, Michael Kiwanuka and Skepta, while Anohni, Ellie Goulding, Emeli Sandé, Lianne La Havas and Nao are nominated for British Female Solo Artists.

Meanwhile, battling it out for British Album Of The Year are The 1975 (I Like It When You Sleep For You Are Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It), David Bowie (Blackstar), Kano (Made In The Manor), Michael Kiwanuka (Love & Hate) and Skepta (Konnichiwa).

Elsewhere, the winner of the BRITs 2017 Critics Choice Award was announced last month, with Rag'N'Bone Man triumphing over Dua Lipa and Anne-Marie.
