Mamma Mia! The Party announces London residency

Mamma Mia! The Party is set to come to London for spring 2019 at The O2.

Original ABBA member and executive producer Björn Ulvaeus and producer Ingrid Sutej of the show launched the live experience in Stockholm and will now make London its new residency.

Mamma Mia! The Party has been running consecutively for three sold-out years in Stockholm, allowing fans to be transported into the Greek setting of Nikos’ Tarverna, as 500 guests drink and dine with Mediterranean food while the story of Nikos and his family is performed by live actors.

“We have long admired The O2 and the huge entertainment success it has become under the ownership and management of AEG,” said Ulvaeus. “We believe bringing Mamma Mia! The Party to The O2 will add to this already vibrant cultural destination and provide the perfect location for our exciting new show.”

The show is said to be inspired by Ulvaeus watching people at the Mamma Mia! musical and wanting the party to continue on after, in the set of a Skopelos taverna where much of the first film was shot.

Work has already started on transforming the venue, led by Haworth Tompkins architect, Steve Tompkins, as guests sit on tables surrounded by a fountain, olive trees and bougainvillea.

“To be hosting the Mamma Mia! The Party experience at The O2 is a real honour,” said VP and general manager of The O2, John Langford. “It perfectly complements the outstanding live performances, events and the dynamic variety of entertainment all available under our world-famous roof.”

Tickets for the experience will be on sale for autumn, with its premiere set for late Spring 2019.
