This week's Q&A is with Bill Kelly, co-founder of the Winter Music Conference. The electronic music gathering returns to Miami Beach, Florida for its 35th edition from March 16-19.

What was your first job in music?
I started in 1972 as a DJ at the Warehouse 8 in Miami, working eight hours a night, six nights a week. I think it’s safe to say; I’ve more than paid my dues as a DJ and entrepreneur in the music business.

How long have you been in your current role?
I’ve been the co-founder of the Winter Music Conference for all 35 years and in my current position as a brand ambassador for the last three years now.

What is your favorite thing about working in the music industry?
I love mentoring enthusiasts looking to explore their passion, just as I have done. There is no greater reward than seeing the successes of a whole new generation of young talented people.

What is the one thing you would like to change about the business?
I’d love to see that old-school unification and homogenised blend of all different types of people and music genres where acceptance and tolerance is not the exception but the norm.

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Watching the creation of what once was an unacceptable form of music become the most popular form of music in the world. Dance music is universal in its ability to bring all people together for a common goal of entertainment, enjoyment and happiness.

What is the best gig you’ve ever been to?
I can’t say there is a single gig but rather many moments, across many countries that I will always cherish. Brazil, Rome, Sardinia, Poland, Curaçao, Ibiza and so many other amazing gigs that have been a party too.
