Taylor Swift adds stadium dates as Reputation finally reaches streaming services

Taylor Swift has added more stadium dates due to “overwhelming demand” after the first batch of shows went on sale today (December 1).

Swift initially announced three concert dates in Manchester, London and Dublin. She has now added a second show in each city and will play the following dates: Manchester’s Etihad Stadium (June 8-9), Dublin’s Croke Park (June 15-16) and Wembley Stadium (June 22-23).

Tickets for the added dates go on sale on December 8. The Reputation Stadium Tour is produced and promoted by Live Nation and SJM Concerts in the UK, MCD in Ireland. Fans will get a first glimpse of her performing new songs at Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball at the O2 Arena next weekend.

Reputation, Swift’s sixth album, finally went on streaming services overnight, a full three weeks after release. The blackout helped the album move 1.216 million copies in its first week in the US.

But there has been a notable lack of promotion on streaming platforms today for the belated release of Reputation. Swift has an awkward history with Spotify – her catalogue only returned to the free tier of the service this year – and the 21-day lockout for Reputation’s release has not encouraged them to actively promote the record.

Tracks from Reputation do not feature in Spotify’s New Music Friday UK playlist, while the album is not featured in the round-up of new releases (the previously available track Gorgeous is included).

Speaking to Music Week last year, George Ergatoudis, Spotify’s head of international, shows and editorial content, hinted at how an artist might fare if they weren’t fully on board across the premium and free services.

“We took a view that we are going to work with people that want to work with us and that’s the reality,” he said. “If you want to partner with us, be on a project with us, be with us from the beginning – that’s where the benefits are going to be. So obviously we are favouring the labels, artists and managers that want to work with us.”

Spotify’s global head of creator services, Troy Carter, said last month that Swift’s streaming holdout “sets the industry back a little bit”.

Amazon Music has put Reputation on its home page, though it’s big marketing push today is for U2’s Songs Of Experience, including The U2 Experience, which lets fans launch a broadcast of exclusive archive and new content.

Tidal is promoting Reputation as a featured album today. Swift has previously embraced the premium-only Apple Music, whose subscribers now have access to Reputation, though again its focus is on U2 with exclusive bonus content.

With Reputation set to drop out of the UK Top 10 today the industry will be watching how Swift’s streaming strategy impacts on the chart during the busy Q4 period.
